We started this journey about 2 weeks ago and what a whirl wind it has been. Once we decided we were going to do this, we contacted a trainer who suggested we put out pleas to our dog friends. Well we asked Lisa, who was Ama's foster mom, if she knew of any dogs who fit our criteria. She connected us to Diann. Diann is a genuine dog lover and the director of PAWS for Greatness which is a wonderful program and you should check it out. She was generous in donating one of her purebred Cane Corso pups to us! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Kynzie is an absolute doll. We are supposed to be doing a trial week, but watching the two of them together leads me to believe there was never any chance this wouldn't work. Joe and Kynzie have already formed an incredible bond. Anytime Joe gets up from the couch or the computer she follows him. She even tries to go in the bathroom with him! While at petsmart today picking up toys for her, Kynzie was naturally bracing and blocking for Joe. He felt much more at ease today than he has in awhile. Thank you Kynzie! Kynzie has also kept us laughing since we brought her home and I have no doubt that she will continue to do so.
So what do we do next you ask? Joe and Kynzie will continue forming their bond. As Joe and I talked, we realized that the significance of what we are doing required us to find a trainer who we could trust, and who could be accessed fairly regularly, especially because we do not have a clue about moving beyond basic obedience. We originally had talked with a trainer in the DFW area. We are very thankful to the original trainer for helping us get started on this journey and we do trust her. However, due to the nature of what we are asking from Kynzie, we felt we needed a trainer closer to us. Diann was able to recommended a dog trainer in San Antonio whose company does training for anything from basic obedience to aggressive dogs and more. The shorter distance will allow us to progress faster through the training. It will also give us more face to face support if we get confused about an aspect of Kynzie's training. We are going to start with basic obedience classes once a week for 5 weeks to build a solid foundation of trust. From there we will do a consultation with the trainer who will help us to set up a private training schedule that fits our needs and requirements.
